Smartphone: ship ~400Mu/year in 2020, market recover in 4Q

The global smartphone market continued to recover in 4Q20, rebounding 8% QoQ to 395.9M units. Apple’s 8% YoY and 96% QoQ growth helped it lead the market in 4Q20. Samsung slipped to the second spot with 62.5M units in 4Q20, However, it led the overall market in 2020. For the first time, OPPO and vivo surpassed Huawei to capture the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, Huawei slipped to the sixth spot. realme emerged as the fastest growing brand in 2020 with 65% YoY growth. 2. IDC :

The worldwide smartphone market continued to improve in 4Q20 returning to familiar ground with 4.3% year-over-year growth. According to IDC, smartphone vendors shipped a total of 385.9M devices during the quarter. While the full year 2020 declined 5.9% compared to 2019, the progress toward market recovery has been impressive and IDC believes the momentum heading into 2021 will remain strong. 3. Omdia

According Omdia, the smartphone market grew 4.7% year-on-year in 4Q20 — the first time since 3Q19 that the smartphone market has achieved year-on-year growth in a quarter. Global shipments reached 381.1M units in 4Q20 — up from 364M units in 4Q19. Compared to 3Q20, shipments increased 6.7% from 357.3M units. In the year as a whole, shipments reached 1.294B units, down 6.7% from the 1.387B units shipped in 2019. (CN Beta, Light Reading, Computer Weekly, Omdia)
